Vacationland is a collection of linked stories centered around Naledi, a northern Minnesota lodge and fishing resort. Vacationland tells the story of those whose paths have crossed at Naledi: Meg, an artist who grew up under her grandfatherís care, a man from nearby Hatchet Inlet, a Sarajevo refugee sponsored by two parishes who canít afford ďtheir own refugee,Ē aged sisters traveling to fulfill a fateful pact once made at the resort, a philandering ad man, a lonely Ojibwe stonemason, and a haiku-spouting girl rescued from a bog. Stonich has a razor-sharp wit that brings to life the many characters in this quintessential Minnesota tale and will appeal to anyone who has ever spent time in the northland. Vacationland is a finalist for the 2014 Minnesota Book Award and was recently selected as one of the top 10 books of 2013 by Pioneer Press books editor Mary Ann Grossmann and a literary highlight of 2013 by The City Pages
